A few months back, had to make a another sheath for an old knife I made and due to a hatred for sewing decided to attach the belt loop in a differtent way (without sewing). The result can be seen below. As long as the right places are skived of leather to prevent ridges then the leather slipped into the sheath should lay flat and not obstruct the knife.

For the next sheath I decided to do away with sewing all together and try it with rawhide; the following series of photos shows the pattern cut out, notice how the lace is also cut from the same piece of material then skived and edged as normal, notice also how I created the design so that the edge of the blade runs along the folded side and not the laced side as is normal, doing away with any need for an extra narrow piece along the laced edge.

sheath pattern;

method used for belt loop

Been working on a new flash sequence - I made it more for animation practise then to actually use it but I have included a few buttons at the end which if I choose later on to use it, would be altered to do what I have mentioned about them.

This took me about 12 days to complete from initial ideas to drawing and gathering of assets to the final animation of the whole scene. Quite good fun and opened my eyes to the many techniques which can be used within Flash.

The SWF movie can be seen on my portfolio page - http://www.mtn-m.co.uk/Portfolio_flash.html.

Many of the Guy’s and Gal’s serving at the moment come back in much the same condition but there will be a few who may not and who, coming from a society wrapped in cotton wool not find the understanding and support they need to recover.

Luckily they have the help of H4H and other such organisations who are equiped to help and deal with injuries, physical and mental which most of use would of never had to deal with. In order to do this they need funds just as much as your sympathy, so please give what ever you can.

Quite recently I found the joy of flashing! the adobe software I’m talking about………

To try and make my site alittle more interesting then just plain pictures I started to learn how to use it about 2 months ago and made my new portfolio - http://www.mtn-m.co.uk/Portfolio_flash.html - not fantastic but give me a chance.

After that little experiment I started to play with it in regard to the kids book idea, the image and swf file below show a part of a new flash protfolio I’m in the middle of creating. In the process of designing and creating new illustration for it I had the chance to further develop the look and also manners of the characters as would be shown in short motion film clips I plan to place within the galleries - this in its self enabled me to better understand the type of story I wanted to write - the more I planned it and researched those things that have mostly influenced me, the more I realised that this story was’nt meant for kids but also for adults like in the genre of ’shrek’ or ‘tom and jerry’ (maybe alittle to long ago for some to remember them) and of course ‘the simpsons’.

       Small flash display

I guess being a natural piss taker and prankster, I was going to have differculty trying to make a story which would be suitable for young kids - critics abound in this global village of ours and I would’nt want to make their day at all - so instead as always I,ve ended up following the path that most suits my humour and once I’ve learnt the finer points of flash animation, will carry on with jim and judys adventures in way I guess that best pleases me and brings smile to my viewers.

Not really part of college work this advert and also takes time away from my dreaming of the kids books but quite frankly I could do with the dosh, if I win that is but apart from the money it was really good fun making being my first real animated project.

Caused one major problem of which might mean I have to snip the end for the competition - The movie was made in flash on a time line of 29 seconds but when saved its length extends to 35 seconds - never really got to the reason why this should happen but if any body knows please tell me as it could be a pain for future master pieces!

I entitled the ‘Get the Manitos’ and starts with a guy strolling in the park when he is set upon by a gang of doritos…………and eaten - ends with the text ‘eat all doritos now, before they eat you.

Its not been excepted by the Doritos gang and is open to viewing on their site - http://kingofads.doritos.co.uk/video/1163021127

Its loaded here as a HTML movie so will just play on your browser.

With most of the snow now gone, Thought I’d try a hike into an area I had’nt been to before. Starting from loch an Eilein the route basically follows a wide dirt track - so no hope of getting lost! Found it quite dry and all of the major river crossing had a bridge or good set of stepping stones. I did not quite get to the loch but took a hikers path just before it from where I took the panoramic below.

For the first time in ages I have had two days of long walks, the first was not planned - started as a normal dog walk but because the river findhorn had been so high lately I wanted to try and walk upto a stretch of gorge - unfortunatly it was further away then I had thought but still got a few nice photos

At the moment I don’t hike as much as I used to, so am planning to do a hike a week in the cairngorms to help get ready for the long walk. This friday I’m gonna head towards loch einich from loch an eilein - never have been that way before and given the amount of snow still in the hills, the dog should be able to handle it OK and not sink knee deep into the snow as I did a few weeks ago by the lairig ghru.

Cheers for all donation and encouragement so far.
